Amarilla sleeps 10 with sea views is a large and well-equipped self-catering holiday villa, within 2 minutes walk of the local beach in Albion, Mauritius North West.

Amarilla is situated in the North West of the island in the quiet fishing village of Albion.

Standard upstairs is high. Downstairs there are two self-contained apartments, one is already let long term. The remaining apartment can be used in combination with the 4 bedrooms upstairs for a large family (electrical air conditioning units in 3 bedrooms, fan in bedroom 4,) or for 2 smaller related families/friends in separate wings with their own toilet and shower with rest of facilities shared. There is plenty of sitting areas downstairs. The covered ground floor area in the first photograph is a very good sitting area.

We can take ten persons at any one time.

The apartment downstairs is more modestly furnished and includes 2 bedrooms, kitchen/diner and toilet/shower room. The cost for the downstairs apartment is much cheaper if booked together with upstairs. There is a cleaner as part of the cost every two days and a gardener once a week. The property is alarmed and connected to a central monitoring system. The sea for swimming is so close there is no pool. Airport Transfers £30 each way for 4 persons.

The beach is within 2 minutes walk and you can wait for the fishermen to arrive with their catch at midday to purchase fresh fish if you wish to.

There is a fresh vegetable stall just down the road together with a restaurant, mini market and hair dresser. A larger mini market can be found a few more hundred yards further.

There is a regular bus service to the nearest town of Rosehill where there is an abundance of shops, banks and market. Port Louis is 30 minutes away where the famous Caudan Waterfront can be found as well as the historic value of Port Louis itself. Although you can generally hire a car for around £20-£25, the best way to explore and get to places must be by local buses and taxi although a couple of days exploring by yourself is also nice. A whole day's taxi fare is around £35 and half a day £20. This can be arranged in advance.

From Albion you can easily reach other resorts and take advantage of deep sea fishing, scuba diving, swim with the dolphins of have a barbecue on an island.

Other types of water sports are available in the south west coast and can be purchased locally.

There is an abundance of restaurants scattered around the island offering both local and European dishes. A good evening meal for 2 in a good restaurant with a bottle of wine would cost between £30 - £35. Lunches can be purchased for £5 - £10.

You will be enchanted with the local beauty of Mauritius, its inhabitants and cosmopolitan way of life which is second to none. Make sure you venture deep into the heart of Mauritius to fully appreciate what Mauritius really has to offer.

GRANDE BAIE (BAY) is situated within an area of sheltered bays and beaches where water sports and fishing complement the shops, bars, restaurants situated near the waterside. It is the earliest and traditional centre of tourism in Mauritius. It was once a small fishing village and is now a lively and largest resort - a popular tourist destination situated on a picturesque horseshoe bay in the north of the island. The town is also the main departure point for trips by boat to the Northern Mauritian Islands of Coin de Mire, Ile Plate and Ilot Gabriel. Local buses run between Port Louis (Capital of Mauritius) and Grand Bay every half hour during the day. Opened as a private garden by the French governor of Mauritius nearly 300 years ago, they served as a major horticultural research centre for the French and British during the colonial period. Today they are home to dozens of varieties of palm trees, as well as medicinal plants, fish ponds, and an amazing collection of Queen Victoria water lilies.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Black River Gorges National Park virgin forests: Enjoy amazing vistas, wild monkeys, waterfalls, volcanic lakes and excellent hiking…the best time to visit the park is during the flowering season between September and January. Look for the rare tambalacoque or dodo tree, the black ebony trees and the wild guavas.

Bird-watchers should keep an eye out for the Mauritius kestrel, pink pigeon, echo parakeet and Mauritius cuckoo-shrike, among other rarities;
Blue Bay lagoon diving;

Casela Nature Park is within walking distance of Flic En Flac: this 14-hectare park is on the main road 1km south of the turn to Flic en Flac. It is beautifully landscaped and has sweeping views over the coastal plain. The park houses some 1500 birds, representing species from around the world (some in rather small cages) including rare pink pigeons. There are also tigers, zebras, monkeys and deer living in a semi-reserve, and giant tortoises, one of which is 180 years old. Children are well catered for with a petting zoo, playground and mini golf. Casela also offers 'safaris' by jeep, mountain bike or on foot around the nearby 45-sq-km Yemen Reserve, where deer, wild pigs, fruit bats and monkeys can be seen in their natural habitat; prices vary according to the different packages.

Beyond small rocky bays of Grande Gaube almost no beaches until a long way down the east coast, making any trip beyond here an illuminating glimpse into traditional Mauritian life without the tourists;

La Vanille Crocodile Park and Nature Reserve at Rivière des Anguilles specialises in the breeding of Nile Crocodiles, Most Mauritian mammals and reptiles can be seen: skinks, phelsumas, tortoises, turtles, bats, deers, mongooses, monkeys, pigs and domestic livestock such as goats, fat-tailed sheep and donkeys. All is set in a rain forested valley studded with natural springs and streams. The springs contain freshwater prawns and fish. Guided tours are provided; a restaurant and a shop on the premises.

Black River Gorges National Park virgin forests: Enjoy amazing vistas, wild monkeys, waterfalls, volcanic lakes and excellent hiking…the best time to visit the park is during the flowering season between September and January. Look for the rare tambalacoque or dodo tree, the black ebony trees and the wild guavas.

Bird-watchers should keep an eye out for the Mauritius kestrel, pink pigeon, echo parakeet and Mauritius cuckoo-shrike, among other rarities;
Blue Bay lagoon diving;

Quad biking and
rock climbing are also on offer.
The park has a pleasant lunch-time restaurant serving drinks, snacks and more substantial meals to visitors.
Centre de Flacq along the road to Quartier Militaire, Flacq Union of Estates Limited sugar mill largest most modern on the island. Tours of the plant take place during the cane harvest (July to early November); phone ahead to find out when they run;

Beyond small rocky bays of Grande Gaube almost no beaches until a long way down the east coast, making any trip beyond here an illuminating glimpse into traditional Mauritian life without the tourists;

La Vanille Crocodile Park and Nature Reserve at Rivière des Anguilles specialises in the breeding of Nile Crocodiles, Most Mauritian mammals and reptiles can be seen: skinks, phelsumas, tortoises, turtles, bats, deers, mongooses, monkeys, pigs and domestic livestock such as goats, fat-tailed sheep and donkeys. All is set in a rain forested valley studded with natural springs and streams. The springs contain freshwater prawns and fish. Guided tours are provided; a restaurant and a shop on the premises.
